Native to the rivers and streams of Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand and Malaysia, this fish is known for its small size, peaceful nature, and distinct spotted pattern.

Typically growing to around 1.2 to 1.5 inches (3 to 4 cm) in length, the Maculata Rasbora has a slender, elongated body. It boasts a translucent or light golden base color adorned with several dark spots or small blotches along its sides, which is how it gets its name "Maculata" (meaning "spotted"). The spots, which are most visible along its body and tail, create an eye-catching contrast and give this fish a unique, attractive appearance.

The Maculata Rasbora is a schooling fish, and like many other species of rasboras, it thrives when kept in groups. It is best to keep them in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals, as this promotes natural social behavior and reduces stress. These peaceful fish are generally non-aggressive and do well in community aquariums with other small, peaceful species like tetras, guppies, neon rasboras, and other small rasboras. However, due to their small size, they should not be kept with larger, more aggressive species that may harass them.

In terms of water conditions, the Maculata Rasbora prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a temperature range of 74°F to 80°F (23°C to 27°C) and a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. They are relatively hardy and adaptable to various aquarium setups, but they thrive best in well-maintained, clean, and well-filtered water. Regular water changes and good filtration are important to maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

As omnivores, the Maculata Rasbora enjoys a varied diet. They will readily accept high-quality flake foods, small pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Offering a balanced diet helps to maintain their health and vibrant colors.

Maculata Rasboras are best suited for smaller aquariums or planted tanks, where they can swim freely and hide in the plants or decorations when needed. Their peaceful and social nature, combined with their striking spotted pattern, makes them a wonderful choice for aquarists who want to create a lively and visually appealing tank with small, non-aggressive fish.

With proper care, stable water conditions, and a balanced diet, the Maculata Rasbora can live for 3 to 5 years in captivity. Its beautiful spotted pattern, peaceful disposition, and active nature make it a lovely addition to a community aquarium.
